Fish Tales
Fishing Superstitions

Fish bite better in the dark of the moon.
If mosquitoes are biting, fish will bite too.

Wind in the east, fish bite least.
Wind in the west, fish bite best.
Wind in the south, they’ll take bait in the mouth.
Wind in the north, go back home.

If you want worms for bait, slap the ground with your hand. The worms think it's raining and will come to the surface.
When worms are on the ground, don't fish. The fish can get them as easily as you can and they won't be hungry.

If you see a fish break water before your first cast, you won’t catch anything.

It's bad luck to change fishing rods or poles.
Don't carry your rod into the house before your trip, or you'll catch nothing.
Never step over your rod.

Whenever you cast, it's good luck to say the name of your first love.
Talking scares the fish away.

Turn your pockets inside out while fishing, and you can't miss.
Never throw your first catch back.
Other people say always throw your first catch back for good luck.

Never take your dog with you when fishing, of the fish wont bite.
Don't ever fish on Sunday.

Letting your shadow fall upon the water while you're fishing will scare the fish away.

Absolutely never count your fish. It brings bad luck.
